DESCRIPTION OF THE CONCERT:

'Peace to her shadows' is the third album of the band Trzy Dni Później, which was released on September 20, 2014, by the record label For Tune, and the patronage of “Dwójka” radio: over the album. The album is a collection of own and collected musical impressions, which the authors dedicate first of all to their grandmothers. As they emphasize: "Their difficult fate taught us how to look for light with calmness." All collected, or original words and melodies, are to show multiculturalism, which somehow defines Lower Silesia, from which the band's vocalists come from. As women, they are interested in this peculiar "melting pot" of historical events, seen through the eyes of women over several centuries. Thus, next to musical memories of relatives, there are also those based on the work of Anna Louise Karsch - poet recognized as Prussian Sappho, born in the eighteenth century, in Świebodzin, and on the memories of Ester Golan of Jewish origin, born in Głogów at the beginning of the 20th century. The musical layer, apart from the harmonies of 3 female voices characteristic for the TDP, is enriched by a minimalist electronics and alto. The visual setting of the concerts was prepared by Damian Styrna.

It would be a quite a big simplification to write that this record is about women. Maybe all this could also meet a man on his way. So it will be about a man who makes a choice in times that are not favorable. It will be about ANNE, who completely gave up her peace of mind, which at her times was guaranteed by marriage. She chose freedom that could be understood in all aspects. Those great, historical, and those invisible that cannot be found on the map. It will be about ESTER, who chose the memories of children's walks on the Oder, although due to the times in which she was born, she could remember something completely different... The reality that we presented on the album, seen also by their eyes, is an attempt to save the timeless world, where a man is defined not through his nationality, origins or social status, but through his actions taken to save the humanity in himself and in the others.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Trzy Dni Później - Polish music group founded in 2000 in Głogów, by Joanna Piwowar (Ms. No One, Digit All Love), Marta Groffik-Perchel and Marta Piwowar - three feminine voices that are distinguished by characteristic consonance. They collaborate, inter alia, with Paweł Odorowicz (alto) and Krzysztof Łochowicz (guitar). They have many prestigious national awards, hundreds of concerts and performances in Poland and abroad. The trio recorded four well-received albums: "Trzy dni później" (“Three Days Later”) (Dalmafon, 2005), “Gdybym” ("If I") (Luna Music, 2009), “Pokój jej cieniom” ("Peace to her shadows" )(For Tune, 2014), "Gryphia" (2017). For many years, TDP has been permanently cooperating with Warsaw theaters: the Roma Theater and the Theater in Wola, as well as with the Powszechny Theater in Łódź. They also create musical performances in collaboration with renowned artists such as Olga Tokarczuk and Wojciech Kuczok.
The band has won many prestigious national awards, including the Artistic Award of Grzegorz Ciechowski, the Grand Prix of the Student Song Festival in Krakow, FAMA in Świnoujście, and Castle Meetings in Olsztyn. The song "Kołysanka dziecinna" performed by the band for half a year was presented on the Hit List of Program Trzeci Polskiego Radia. In 2004, in the competition "Pamiętamy o Osieckiej" Trzy Dni Później has won the Second Prize. It resulted in the recording of a CD with the texts of Bolesław Leśmian and Agnieszka Osiecka. In 2014, the band received the prestigious Grand Prix of the 17th Polish Folk Music Competition "New Tradition". They also received the Special Award for the most creative adaptation of music from the collections of Oskar Kolberg.

Paweł Ododrowicz - musician (viola), improviser, composer, arranger, sideman, recording engineer. Born in 1973 in Lublin (Poland). Graduated form Crakow Music Academy in 1998, and in 2011-2014 a lecturer at the Department of Contemporary Music, Jazz and Percussion at the Cracow Music Academy. In 2011 and 2014 he received the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage scholarships for: 'Milosz in living pictures' - multimedia show based on poetry of Nobel's awarded polish writer Czeslaw Milosz (2011), and 'Zabawianki, wyliczanki, kołysanki, czyli Kolberg dzieciom' - songs and music plays for children based on traditional polish music (2014). In 2017 he received the President of The Lublin City scholarschip for composition of music for string quartet based on traditional polish music. In 2016 he became a laureate of the 'Real Musicians Tournament' in Philharmonic in Szczecin. He is a two-time Grand Prix winner in the 'New Tradition' Folk Music Contest organized by Polish Radio: in 2014 with the group Trzy Dni Później, and in 2017 with the original project 'Songs of Transition' performed by the duo Grochocki_Odorowicz. He is cooperating with famous polish theatre director Leszek Mądzik (Scena Plastyczna KUL), creating live music for his theatre shows 'Out of the darkness' (Warsaw, 2015), 'Furrow II' (Christchurch, New Zealand, 2015), 'Gate. Piotrkowska 26' (Lodz, 2016), '(She) leaves' (Wrocław, 2016), - 'Corset' (Lodz, 2016). Paweł Odorowicz tooks part in over 40 CD and DVD records. He cooperates with CHOREA Theatre since 2013. He performs in CHOREA Theatre projects, performanceas and concerts: 'Gilgamesh' (2013), 'Lullabies' (2013), 'After The Birds' (2016), 'Spojrzystośc' (2017), 'IN_NI' (2017).

'This is the third album by the Polish female vocal trio Trzy Dni Pozniej, which comprises of Marta Groffik-Perchel, Marta Piwowar and Joanna Piwowar-Antosiewicz. On this album the trio is accompanied by violist Pawel Odorowicz and electronic sound devices operated by Joanna and Pawel are also employed. The album presents eleven pieces, eight of which were composed by Joanna and three are Polish folk melodies arranged by the ensemble. Joanna also wrote all the lyrics except for one piece which uses a poem by Rainer Maria Rilke.
The concept of this song cycle can be describes as 'for women by women', as it is dedicated to the singers´ grandmothers and is inspired by works of two extraordinary Lower Silesian women: the writings by poetess Anna Louisa Karsh, who lived in 18th Century Prussia, which ruled parts of Lower Silesia at the time and the memoirs and poems by Ester Golan (born Ester Dobkowsky), who survived the Holocaust as a child in England while her Jewish family perished, and who lives in Israel since 1945, famous for her interfaith dialogue activities.
The musical content is a completely cross-genre amalgam of a myriad of different references, including Polish folklore but also ambient / electronic music, minimalism, contemporary choral music, alternative Pop, Jazz improvisation, grunge Rock and so on. The melodic scope is mostly melancholic and introvert, which fits the overall contemplative nature of this project. The lyrics are all quite poetic, inspired by folkloristic motifs but using a modern free form verse, often ignoring rhyming rules and full of other linguistic peculiarities.
The most striking effect of this music is of course the exquisite usage of unisono parts performed by the three vocalists. I admit the fact that I have a soft spot for the human voice, but the sheer beauty of these three voices combined is almost superhuman. Joined by the eerie electronics and other background sounds the vocal parts are so effective, that they become irresistible. Of course one has to appreciate, on the intellectual level, the attention that went into combining all these elements together to create this astonishing effect. The contrasting viola parts are also wonderful ingredients of the entire soundscape.
There is no doubt that this is one of the most intriguing and fascinating albums released in Poland in 2014. Different and separate from any form of mainstream music, intelligent, passionate and uncompromising, this should be model for others to follow. This is a music for all seasons, which combines the respect for the past with the burning desire to innovate and create; music which escapes all genre limitations and is simply universal. 'This is a female vocal trio supported by an excellent alto by Paweł Odorowicz. They have been active on the market for years, they have reaped laurels, including poetry song competitions, received the Grand Prix at the New Tradition festival - and the new album is a kind of aftermath of this success. three folk themes and eight original stylistic references to them (one for Reiner Maria Rilke's text), unhurried pace, thoughtfully built dramaturgy, pleasing, charming vocal harmonies, dominated by a delicate counterpoint to subtle, though mechanical electronic effects, dominate. sometimes suspended in the air, creating a delicate mist of vocal chords between Marta Groffik-Perchel, Marta Piwowar and Joanna Piwowar-Antosiewicz.
TDP evidently remain in the circle of fascination with a literary song, but they also do something very, very original in this convention. A delicate, well-balanced opening up to rural music inspiration adds even more value to their work. It seems to be a path encouraging further exploration. It is worth listening to the album 'Peace to her shadows', one of the most inconspicuous, delightful records of the year.'

'The cool, slightly dark, subtle electronic and beautiful harmony of the album 'Peace to her shadows' leads through the subsequent musical portions of the main characters Ester and Anne. With their biographies, creativity and thoughts, the girls from Trzy Dni Później created a beautiful world full of value which - mentioned Ester Golan and Anne Louise Karsch - have searched for their whole lives. And probably not only them.'

'Album 'Peace to her shadows' is filled with calm, nostalgic, sometimes very sad music, which is based on cleverly intertwined voices of Joanna Piwowar-Antosiewicz, Marta Piwowar and Marta Groffik-Perchel. Paweł Odorowicz, an altoviolist associated with our folk stage for many years, accompanies this vocal trio, as well as minimalistic, cool electronics. 'Peace to her shadows' is an album kept in a homogeneous, reflective atmosphere, although sometimes the music can surprise. Words play an important role on the album. They are like a bridge connecting generations. The folk themes, heard from the grandmothers of the vocalists, are adjacent to the original poetry of Joanna Piwowar-Antosiewicz, based on the texts of Anna Louise Karsch and Ester Golan. The album can be recommended with all responsibility, for those who are interested in a new approach to tradition (not only the folk one), it is a must-have.'
