'ASCETICA: Salvatores Dei' (The Saviors of God) is a spiritual text, and series of 'spiritual exercises', written as a gospel by the world-renowned Greek author Nikos Kazantzakis from Iraklion, Crete (1883-1957). Concert created by Omma Studio Theatre form Greece, is an 'Opus', a theatrical ritual based on the human voice.

'ASCETICA' of Omma Studio theatre is also a research into the relationship between theatre and ceremony. With 'ASCETICA', Omma Studio Theatre wishes to connect people – to recreate the lost, primal, essential human connections between people – the performance shapes itself as a transitional ritual.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE ARTISTS:

Omma Studio Theatre was founded by Antonis Diamantis in 1991. 'Omma' in the ancient Greek language means 'eye', as well as 'glance'. The selection of this name is harmonious with the choice of direction of the experimental theatre, where research work is a primary element and a prerequisite, and results as a new point of view, a new glance.
The work of Omma Studio group proposes new theatrical codes to the spectators. Omma Studio artists are searching and testing the acceptable principles of theatre. What is theatre? What does it mean for an actor to 'play'? How does Space and Time influence the functioning of the performance? They name the way they do theatre – a Space Theatre – because they are trying to make a 'change' with their presence, space and time. They try to achieve this, by applying specific and original principles, based on physical actions.
Omma Studio Theatre participated in many International Theatre Festivals in Europe, Middle East, Africa and Latin America. They translated (Antonis Diamantis and Irini Koutsaki) and published in Greece the books: 'The Edge point of the performance' by Thomas Richards and 'The Land of Ashes and Diamonds' by Eugenio Barba. Omma Studio is a co-organizer of the European Projects: 'Caravan Next', 'Tandem Fryslan' and 'Erasmus+'.

REVIEWS:

'A performance which uses symbols, attributes and elements of a ritual. Α struggle for life itself, tightened between light and darkness. A baeutiful performance in a dark setting.'
(Willem Van der Graats)
